Video Game Console Repair
at AugyTek!

Video Game Consoles.  Virtually everyone has or has used one of these in their lifetime. We also socially network through our consoles.  But what happens when something goes wrong?  Most people don’t think about console repair, they opt to just buy a new one.  But in present day at $500 or more, IF you can get one at all, that isn’t exactly the right solution for everyone.

The Console Repair Dilemma

You know there is something wrong with your game console, how much do you spend in fixing it?

If you have a special edition, reverse compatible, or retro console, it is definitely worth the repair cost.  You cannot easily replace this unit, and is probably worth more than what the repairs cost.  These types of consoles are always worth repairing.

With our world being what it is post-pandemic, most all console systems are tough to find right now.  Replacing a console is now often MORE expensive than repair!

We work on virtually any type of console! From the Atari all the way up to the Xbox One series X / PS5. Repair costs vary depending on the type of repair needed.

Optical drives, internal/external power supplies, and storage drives are the most common types of repair.

PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT work on VR headsets, or anything related to them!

We can work on modern and retro controllers… However, we do advise people that due to our labor rate it is often cheaper to just buy new ones. We are happy to recycle the broken old ones for you at no cost!

In addition to repairs, we carry accessories and adapters for many game console systems in our store!

HDMI PORT REPLACEMENTS!! (Cancelled due to lack of interest!)

We have offered this service for nearly 3 years now. In that time frame we checked in about a couple dozen repairs on various consoles for this service. About 1/4th of these check-ins resulted in finding that other issues were present. Due to the severity of overall damage, they were classified as unrepairable.

Unfortunately, the initial demand did not match the ongoing demand. Covid began to wane and normal life made its return.

We decided to stop offering repairs for HDMI ports in the Summer of 2023. Instead we are focusing on other more commonly requested repairs!

Alternatively, we can still offer some store credit for your console! Although we do not deal in selling present day consoles, we do other repairs to them. Your store credit is good to use on retro games/consoles or computer/cell phone repairs/parts also!

We’d like to thank our patrons that did use this service, and enjoyed having their console work again!

Our General Game Console Repair Process

We don’t expect you to know exactly what is wrong with your console.  Many times people do a Google search for similar problems and attempt to resolve it that way.  Different problems can have the same appearance.  The quick Google and/or YouTube fixes can often make a problem worse, or create a problem that didn’t exist before.

Augytek determines the root cause of the problem, and if it is feasible/affordable to fix. We check in your console under the standard service for PC’s. ($100 + tax)

When you check in your console Bring the power cord, hard drive, (if external or removable) and a controller with it!

Sometimes a console just needs a good cleaning.

Let us do the cleaning for you using the proper tools! We get all that impossible to reach dust and debris out of your system so it doesn’t overheat!!  We only charge an hour of labor ($100) for this entire process, due at check in.  Please note: If your console is still under warranty, we are unable to perform a cleaning.

A complete deep clean of your console is available! We charge 2 hours of labor ($200) for this, and it also involves a thermal repasting*! Make your console can as cool as possible when operating!

*- Please note: On PS5’s liquid metal temper is used as the thermal agent. We WILL NOT replace this as it is not only impractical, but unnecessary and dangerous to use. Instead we use our Arctic Silver 5, or other appropriate thermal paste. (if a better one comes out in the future)

We also can bring your retro console back from the dead!!

If we have the replacement parts for your retro style console, we typically can get it back to working condition.  Atari’s, Nintendo’s, and Gameboys are just a few of the Retro consoles we bring back from the beyond.  The price for this depends on how much work and part(s) cost are involved.

If your console is too far gone we do occasionally get retro game multi-consoles! Examples of these are the Retron 3 or Retron 5’s.  The MSRP on these multi-consoles is anywhere from $100 to $150 normally.

We presently have Turtle Beach special editions in stock, that come with an extra controller for the SNES! The special editions are a little more at $250, due to their unique coloring and extra controller.

These multi-capable cartridge Retron systems are still a much more affordable alternative in 2023!

Screen replacement:

AugyTek has the ability to replace screens on some handheld consoles.  Part availability varies by many factors, please bring us in your device so we can see which screen you need! Again, please note that not all screens will be available due to many factors.

We want to fix it as much as you want it fixed! However, there is an ever closing gap between cost efficient and unreasonable before even factoring install labor into it.

Retro Cartridge Cleaning by AugyTek

Since Covid, we have expanded into other areas thanks to the global parts shortage.  We now offer professional cleaning and restoration for not just your retro console, but your retro cartridge games as well!

In most cases we can clean up your cartridges to the point where they work the first time! Just like when you were a kid!

In most typical cases we charge $10 per cleaning of cartridges, and $50 per console. If you have more than 10 cartridge games you want us to clean…. We can probably get you a little better of a deal for bulk processing.

Console cleanings include disassembly and internal cleaning. We can also advise you on any potential future issues we see while we are inside cleaning the internals.

Please contact us for more information if you are interested in this service!

Disclaimer:  If you drowned your favorite Cartridge game in Tang when you were a kid… There probably isn’t anything we can do for it.  Short of that, we certainly can try restoring anything else!

Finally, every console repair is different! We recommend you either come in or contact us to see what service is right for you!
